Community Garden

In 2022 Families Moving On acquired two polytunnels at MACCA Resource Centre, Knockshee Park, Omagh. Research has proved gardening is extremely beneficial for wellbeing, for example, it can improve mental health by reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, mood disturbances and stress. The polytunnels have afforded interested members the opportunity to grow their own produce. They also provide excellent opportunities for connecting with others.

The community garden is a place where members can relax and connect with nature. Research also shows community gardens act as a pride of place in providing individuals with a shared ownership and shared learning. They can even help regenerate run-down areas and boost the local economy. In addition, community gardens help create healthier communities with local food growing helping people make healthier food choices. And of course gardening is also a source of aerobic exercise which can help increase stamina, strength and flexibility.
